Blogs for online marketing / advertising / promotion

Hey......I am still waiting for some guidance on use of blogs in advertising / marketing / promotion....Please help.

Blogging....aha!!

I am a new blogger...still trying to grapple with what blogging is all about. Help!! Can somebody guide me as to how to promote a blog? How do I get more people to see my blog? Do I resort to the online marketing space or put the blog ID on my e-mail signature? Or else, just wait for some kind soul to answer me!!

When u go on links for local search / online search, one does get links to blogs, but the links do not always answer the queries.

Is blogging just a recreational tool? Is it as popular a marketing (online marketing) & promotion tool, as it is claimed?
