movies...movies....

Movies r fun. Only if they make some sense. Even a comedy which does not need one to make use of ones grey cells is a fun. But, as long as the movie is not degrading to anybody in the name of fun, it is fine. No discrimination. No taming of the shrew (read heroines)....then it is good fun. Chupke Chupke - amazing. Jaane bhi do yaaron - fabulous. Both r landmarks in their own right. Unbeatable.

Arushi....

Thanks for replying Ms Sheeley.
Well...what the respective groups learn out of this - the media & law makers & enforcers....is, open to speculation. The learning usually is not much , doesn't show & the lessons learnt vanish out of the window with another similar sensational story. TRPs can be increased in other ways, as well!! Amen to the hope of justice being served and souls to rest in peace.

Arushi ....national news???!!!!!!!

The poor girl who was killed - Arushi....may her soul rest in peace. She has been killled, her servant has been killed....whodunnit??? has become the national news, overshadowing other news. Some say that it is because the father is suspected to have killed her...what happens to other honour killing cases where the killers admit it openly, those cases of rapes & murders happening everywhere in India in the name of religion, honour....India, the so called loving country, has no love to offer.

Why has this one news taken over our dinner time, drawing room conversation? Why is the media indulging in unethical practices - interviewing people from her phone book, highlighting her messages....they are putting those people under danger & breaching the privacy of the dead & alive......as also hindering the investigations & alerting the guilty. And also, committing breach of privacy. No body is stopping them.

The hypocricy of the Indian society is also coming to fore - a young girl who was havig fun, was in love, was branded characterless!!!!!!!!! Why do me measure character only by sex. Vinod Dua had raised this very question. The incompetency of the police has also come to fore.

But, all said and done, should not the other equally / more horrendous cases get equal attention? The honour killings, the gender killings, female infanticides, child marriages, rapes, murders, corruption.......should get national attention.

Just solve the case and let her rest in peace.

What say???

India calling....aha!

I was speaking with a friend today. We got on discussing how the issues become so politicised that the real issues get pushed back. Be it the Arushi murder case, the criticism of smoking by Shah Rukh Khan & also of drinking by our own lovable King Khan...How these politicians use these smoke screens to push the more critical issues underneath the carpet. Does Mr Ramadoss know what is happening in AIIMS, what is the state of the medical facilities in the country....does he think of ways of getting more private players involved in the health industry, does he think of increasing the reach of medical insurance??? NO. He thinks where he can get more publicity and targets King Khan. By the noise he made of Khans' habits of smoking and his movies, people who might not have noticed his smoking before, sat up and noticed. Maybe now, more youngsters will get influenced. If he is soooooo worried about the youngsters, why does he not do something about the abysymmal rate of infant mortality in India?????

English novels, books

Hey book lovers. I am from Delhi. Can somebody tell me where to get second hand books (English novels) at good rates? And, is the Daryaganj market as good as it is touted to be????

I am interested in foreign authors and Indian authors who write in English.
