Arushi ....national news???!!!!!!!

The poor girl who was killed - Arushi....may her soul rest in peace. She has been killled, her servant has been killed....whodunnit??? has become the national news, overshadowing other news. Some say that it is because the father is suspected to have killed her...what happens to other honour killing cases where the killers admit it openly, those cases of rapes & murders happening everywhere in India in the name of religion, honour....India, the so called loving country, has no love to offer.

Why has this one news taken over our dinner time, drawing room conversation? Why is the media indulging in unethical practices - interviewing people from her phone book, highlighting her messages....they are putting those people under danger & breaching the privacy of the dead & alive......as also hindering the investigations & alerting the guilty. And also, committing breach of privacy. No body is stopping them.

The hypocricy of the Indian society is also coming to fore - a young girl who was havig fun, was in love, was branded characterless!!!!!!!!! Why do me measure character only by sex. Vinod Dua had raised this very question. The incompetency of the police has also come to fore.

But, all said and done, should not the other equally / more horrendous cases get equal attention? The honour killings, the gender killings, female infanticides, child marriages, rapes, murders, corruption.......should get national attention.

Just solve the case and let her rest in peace.

What say???

It is too early to tell, but I hope something good eventually comes out of this tragedy. Maybe people will take the time to educate themselves about what dishonor killings are. . .and what they aren't. Maybe the media will take the time to reflect on their handling of this story. Maybe the police will re-examine their practices.

Of course, in the end, I hope justice is served. And that the victims can rest in peace.
